The abstract shapes Phil take on the appearance of so many things, i.e., dolphins to birds perched on a twig. Lovely gesture and hues.

Phil Chadwick replied:

So nice to hear from you Susan. This was from 2007 almost a decade ago but it still brings back fond mmories of another place and time.

Artist's Description

I was intrigued by the shapes and colours in the cloud around 5:30 pm while standing on the back hill with the last Plein Air Painter standing. So I grabbed another canvas and proceeded to paint. The cirrostratus with the upper cold low was still very visible on the eastern horizon. Meanwhile brisk northwesterly winds were still directly streets of turbulent stratocumulus and cumulus fractus southward across the Oak Ridges Moraine. It was very windy on the back hill and there was no danger of biting bugs! I was tempted to try to make the painting even better the next day but resisted and only signed my name.

About Phil Chadwick

Phil Chadwick

I paint outside - nothing between my eyes and the inspiration. That special connectivity gets into the pigments and you quickly realize that we are all stewards of the land, privileged to appreciate its beauty during our lifetime but responsible for leaving the environment better off for the future and all inhabitants... Phil was born and raised along the St. Lawrence of Ontario, Canada and studied at Queens University as a nuclear physicist. A meteorologist for Environment Canada for 35 years, Phil specializes in severe weather and training. Remote sensing is his forte - you might want to see a tornado before you die... but not just before you die! He has farmed, raised bees, written books and articles, lectured and instructed...
