It was raining on Wednesday morning. The plein air group was supposed to go to George Lake, Killarney Provincial Park for an all day outing but the rain at times heavy kept them in. I parked the Subaru at the "Second Beach" on George Lake. I completed most of this from the passenger side of the car because it really did rain hard. Toward the end, I took the painting outside but I did so too early. I turned my back and the wind blew my easel into the sand and gravel. This added much needed texture to the brush strokes. In any event, the rain had tapered to drizzle and I was able to finish up the work on the beach.
The trails were much too wet and dangerous to travel so I stayed on the beach. I saw a lady with a large rectangular bandage on her forehead. It certainly wasn't a "stop smoking" patch! She must have taken a nasty tumble on some wet rocks. A few very wet canoeists paddled back to the First Beach while I was doing this painting. The weather was going to clear but they didn'...
I paint outside - nothing between my eyes and the inspiration. That special connectivity gets into the pigments and you quickly realize that we are all stewards of the land, privileged to appreciate its beauty during our lifetime but responsible for leaving the environment better off for the future and all inhabitants... Phil was born and raised along the St. Lawrence of Ontario, Canada and studied at Queens University as a nuclear physicist. A meteorologist for Environment Canada for 35 years, Phil specializes in severe weather and training. Remote sensing is his forte - you might want to see a tornado before you die... but not just before you die! He has farmed, raised bees, written books and articles, lectured and instructed...

Thank you Susan... I have been recording the facts behind each painting from the very start. With 1620 paintings, it would be a daunting task now... doing it at the time is no that much effort... otherwise I would certainly forget :>))
