Cirrostratus Coming At Us
Artist

Painting - Oil On Canvas
Description
The sunsets in Southampton are always spectacular! A large high pressure area was anchored over Lake Huron but that didn’t stop the cirrostratus from pouring over the top of the associated upper ridge. The cirrostratus was the leading edge of the warm conveyor belt with the approaching weather system. These clouds have quite the story to tell.
The cloud colours changed by the minute but I tried to do them justice. Tiny bugs landed in the paint and they were much too fragile to rescue. A couple of bugs are buried for eternity in the pigment.
I simply wanted to paint and loosen up for the art course “Wind, Waves and Weather” that would start the next morning for the Southampton Art School. I started this painting at 9 pm and by 9:45 pm it was too dark to see the canvas. Darkness is a good motivator so that one does not over-work a canvas.
