Description
A big cold low rain event with abundant moisture from the Gulf of Mexico had just crossed southern Ontario. The hang back part of the storm was all that remained over eastern Ontario and Singleton Lake. The bands of convective showers were wrapped up in the northerly flow. The turbulence was whipping up just some of the moisture that had fallen into those bright, front lit stratocumulus. The characteristic cloud shapes gave the northerly wind direction away. The overcast skies did not let much sunlight through but it was enough to brighten up those clouds.
This was a small and very rough panel and I wanted to have some fun with the old oils left on my palette...
Lake Ontario and the St Lawrence River were at or very near their highest levels ever recorded. In Lake Ontario, the levels were the highest since 1918 when records started to be kept. Last week the lake levels were at 75.86 metres, which is eight cm above the previous high for this time of the year set in 1952, according to the Cataraqui Regional Conservation Authority (CRCA). The outflow volume at Cornwall was 10,200 cubic metres per second, equalling the highest outflow since recording began there 117 years ago. It was a record wet spring and it was all due to climate change - something the political and business elite had long denied.
