Painting - Oil On Panel
Description
The early morning sun casts an unusual light on the ice of the lake. For a few minutes, the ice was cobalt blue exactly as I painted it. As the sun climbed higher in the sky the ice turned much more gray. The spring ice was not to be trusted unless of course you were prepared to go swimming. A deck of stratocumulus appeared on the western horizon as I painted. The flat layer of cloud had a leading edge that was really lit up by the sun. Of course this sharp leading edge could be explained by a low level deformation zone process - my favourite part of meteorological science.
The cattails in the lower right of this painitng would also later be turned into a painting. These 5 by 7 inch panels are very rough and have a lot of tooth. I had to lay the oils on pretty thick.
