Painting - Oil On Panel
Description
I like round bales and I wanted to paint in thick oil. I have often said that I mix my own greens all of the time. That is not completely true. There are some greens that are tough to mix. Emerald green is one of those (I think) and in any event it was a lot easier to squirt it from the tube. You will find emerald green in this painting. There are a half dozen round bales in this painting and that explains the title of the work.
A farmer friend of mine was bailing a hilly field and he let go of the round bale at just the perfectly wrong time. Dry hay weighs about 10 pounds per cubic foot. The 5 foot by 6 foot round bale encases about 141.3 cubic feet or about 1400 pounds. A bale released on the top of a hill (potential energy) can convert this to a lot of kinetic energy by the time it gets to the bottom. My friends round bale took out the hay wagon and a couple of fence lines.
