Description
It was still cold and windy but the snow squalls had shifted south of Singleton Lake. I still had time to paint but outside was out of bounds due to the title of this panel. This is the view to the east from my studio window. I am always entranced by the way the trees reach into the sky. Three ravens, the Einsteins of the bird world, came flapping by and seemed to be invigorated by the wind.
The clouds tell the story of the strong winds in the cold and unstable boundary layer of the atmosphere. The cumulus remains from the snow squalls were all turned into fractus. The cirrus in the upper atmosphere was riding along with the jet stream and somewhat banded into gravity waves at some stable layer the was the upper boundary of the ice crystal moisture.
Wind chill really confuses people. Equivalent temperature "feels like" something a lot colder if it is windy. Equivalent temperature is not a real temperature. Power loss is more physically sound but beyond anyone who didn't like high school physics.
Years ago I guess I was stupid and froze my hands. Dumb! Really, I was stupid. There was no wind chill that day but it was darn cold and I was absorbed in my painting (#0610 "Wild Life") .Now I can't take either the cold or wind chill. As a result, this painting was completed from the comfort of the studio looking out the window. I had no other options but as I said, I had time to paint and didn't want to waste it.
